Frances fell for the film’s co-director, Joel Coen, when he lent her a series of books including the erotic crime thriller The Postman Always Rings Twice.

Frances recalled: “A couple of nights later I said, ‘Would you like to come over and discuss the book?’ That did it. He seduced me with literature.”

Do they have any children?

In 1995, Frances and Joel adopted a son from Paraguay named Pedro McDormand Coen.
