Apart from the ever-evolving titles each member of the British royal family holds, there exists another special list of names for Prince Harry: the sweet pet names that wife Duchess Meghan and some other loved ones refer to him by.
In recent years, Meghan has on multiple occasions been documented referring to her husband by the endearing nicknames, "Haz" and "H"—and in the pair's new docuseries, Harry & Meghan, she, as well as her mother, and various of their mutual friends, call the prince by the same nicknames.
Ahead, see the brief context behind these two special names.
Haz
In Volume I of the docuseries, Meghan reveals that "Prince Haz" has been the contact name for Harry on her phone since their first meeting. While recalling the details of their initial connection and first date, Meghan explains the mutual friend who set her and Harry up had referred to him as "Prince Haz" while telling Meghan about him.
The Duchess of Sussex also says that their close circle of friends like to call them "Haz" and "Meg."
Though she doesn't delve further into the backstory, Haz is a common British nickname for the name Harry, and one that we know to be particularly special for the Sussexes.
In a 2021 appearance on The Late Late Show—during which Meghan is first heard using the pet name while remotely dialing into the interview—Harry makes clear to host James Corden that "Haz" is exclusive to her. "Haz? I didn't know we were calling you 'Haz' now," Corden says, to which Harry replies, "You're not my wife."
H
Meghan additionally refers to her husband as "H." When recounting the story of their early romance in the first episode of the docuseries, she says, "I had a career, I had my life, I had my path, and then came H. Talk about a plot twist." She continues to call him H in the following episodes.
Meghan first publicly introduced the nickname in 2019, in her and Harry's documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, which they filmed ahead of their royal exit. "I've said for a long time to H—that's what I call him—[that] it's not enough to just survive something, right? That's not the point of life," she says in the doc. "You've got to thrive, you've got to feel happy."
Harry & Meghan Volumes I and II are now available to stream on Netflix.
